The Girl & The Earring
When we found this figure, one of its original forged iron earrings was missing.
Hand forged in iron using Bastar's centuries old wrought iron tradition, this figure comes from a metalworking practice carried forward by the Lohar blacksmith communities of Chhattisgarh, where iron is shaped through fire and handcrafted. Made around seventy years ago, it stands as a testament to a craft that has remained rooted in its traditional methods across generations.
For this piece, we added glass beads as earrings, building on a detail that was already present in the object.
The glass beads amplify that detail, bringing colour, light and movement without changing the sculpture's original silhouette. The contrast between the matte wrought iron and the glass creates a contemporary layer that sits comfortably within the object's existing character, while remaining faithful to the original construction.
