The Tray and Coin

USD 200

We came across this little German silver tray and fell for its flower-like scalloped edges and understated elegance.

Pieces like this may have been shaped, pressed or stamped by metalworkers and finished with hand detailing. Its exact place and date of manufacture remain unknown, but it was the delicate form that caught our eye.

The tray’s scalloped outline reminded us of the 10-paise coins we grew up seeing, so we took that familiar shape as our starting point.

The result brings together two small objects from different worlds, one made to hold things, one made to hold things, the other made to circulate, connected by a shape that felt instantly familiar.
